Keyboard Shortcuts (Access Keys):
This site is coded to with some quick 'access keys'. Most modern Internet browsers allow users to quickly jump to specific links using a combination of keystrokes (see below).
On a Windows™ keyboard, you can simultaneously press ALT + another character, followed by ENTER to go to that page; On an Apple™ Mac, you can press Control + another character key followed by ENTER to go to that page. Your browser or Internet device may use a different combination of keys so check your software help files.

- Access key 0 - Site Help / Access Keys (this page)
- Access key 1 - Home page
- Access key 2 - News (Latest Journal)
- Access key C- Contact Us
- Access key M- Main Menu (top)
- Access key S- Skip to Main Text
- Access key W- Style Switcher
"Skip to ..." Links:
Most pages on this site have a link that allows you to skip the main menu by going straight to the page content. This is usually the first link on the page. We've also added a "To Menu" and "Home" links on each page below the main content as a shortcut to these areas.
Tab Key Indexing:
Using the TAB key will sequentially take you from one link to another. Where necessary, links on this site have been given a TAB order to allow quick access to each link. The general TAB order for links in most pages is as follows:
- Main Menu Links
- Breadcrumb Trail (your virtual path)
- Page Content Links
- Form Input Boxes
- Related Sub-menu Navigation
- Page Footer Links
Link Text:
Where necessary, most links have a text title that describes the link in greater detail. This description is usually shown as a 'fly-out' or speech balloon when you hover the mouse cursor over the link.

ACCESSIBILITY and USABILITY:
The Foresight Project supports 'Accessible and Usable Web Design'. The badges and icons listed above, show that the Foresight Project have considered how this web site may be used by many different users, including disabled people or people with special equipment.
Disability Friendly:
Many visitors to web sites have special needs and so cannot always view pages as well as able bodied people. For instance some people (e.g. the elderly, mobility impaired, blind, etc) cannot use a mouse, or read web pages because of poor eyesight. Some people may use a special speech browser or braille machine to 'read' the Internet. This site is designed to help these people.
World Wide Web Standards:
All pages produced on the Foresight Project web site conform to the 'W3C' Web Accessibility Initiative Guidelines. The "World Wide Web Consortium" are global guardians of all major Internet technologies. They encourage web developers and web site owners to practice compliance of universal and published web design standards.
Compliance and Validation:
The pages of this web site are independently tested manually and using validation software.
- This site is BOBBY approved which means they comply with at least the Priority 1 guidelines of the Web Content Accessibility Initiative (WAI)
- This site validates to at least xHTML 1.0 Transitional
- The style sheets on this site validate as CSS 2

VISUAL WEB DESIGN:
- This site uses CSS (cascading style sheets) for the visual presentation and positioning
- All images have been optimised for the fastest download times
- The minimum of scripts and dynamic content is used to assist non-script / non plug-in devices
- Image flicker, flashing and animation is kept to a minimum
- All images have an alternative description to assist non-visual users
- This site uses only proportional font sizes. This allows the user to re-size the text to their liking using the browser tools or their own style sheet.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, the content of each page is still readable as text.
- Where possible the user should be able to customise the page view (e.g. window size, text size, colours, disable images, etc) dependent on their viewing software, browser or equipment. Please check the 'help' sections for your own software for its own usability and accessibility features.
Image Alternatives:
All important images used in this site include descriptive 'ALT' attributes to describe the image to non-vision users. These act like captions for you to read. Purely decorative graphics, such as bullet points and arrows, include a null or asterisk ALT value which will be read by a speech or text device. This ALT description is usually shown as a 'fly-out' or speech balloon when you hover the mouse cursor over the image.
Complex images, photographs and video will include a nearby link to another page to explain the significance of each image to non-visual users.

WEB STANDARDS:
For the easiest experience this site requires a web browser that supports modern web standards, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or above or Netscape 6.1 or above. You may find other browsers work well too like Opera or Mozilla. However, the site will still be readable in most older browsers but may not show the pages as intended.
Many of the above hints and tips form part of the published guidelines for Web Standards by the 'W3C'. These standards are to ensure web designers and developers build web sites that work without error, are usable by more people and accessible to the disabled.
