This was the title of just one of the many and varied sketches and other forms of entertainment performed by members of Foresight's drama group. Six months of hard work, learning scripts, songs, line dancing and poetry, finally came together as two evening and one matinee of performances.
I joined a group of people, none of whom I had ever met before at Foresight Project, to be told that we would be learning drama and putting on a show at the end of the course.
The Cast Members:
From approximately a dozen people seven stayed the course myself included. As the weeks went by we all grew in confidence and scripts provided by our teacher David Wrightham were learnt from large print sheets, Braille and cassette tape. Many times we collapsed with laughter as lines were fluffed and said in the wrong order, but we soon learnt to ad lib and put down our scripts. Jan, Elaine and myself belong to the line-dancing group, so roped in our fellow dancers to give a little more variety. Of course this all made for a very good exercise in how to strip quickly and get into your next costume.
This brings me on to the male members of the cast, two, namely John and Martin who were extremely brilliant as two middle-aged, bored housewives in two different sketches and in my view, stole the show. Charles and Sid in the Sex Therapy sketch. I think we all did great in Wilfred Winterbottom.
My Thanks:
To my fellow actors and actresses THANKS for helping me to gain a bit of confidence which I was lacking at the beginning, and hope to gain a bit more with you all in the future.
Come and Join Us:
To those members of Foresight who could not be there you missed a treat (nothing like blowing your own trumpet) and if you would like to join us we meet on Wednesday mornings 10am at Foresight. All are welcome, visually impaired and sighted, even if you do not want to stand alone on a stage we will find you a job in our next production. The wages are non-existant but the company and rewards are excellent.
Penny Jackson.
