Rifle Shooting:
On Thursday 11th November, a group of us went for our first attempt at rifle shooting. We arrived at the Keelby rifle club not knowing what to expect, as none of us had ever been rifle shooting before. Well, not with a Sonic Aided Rifle.
We were taken into a small hall, which was attached to the firing range. Our main instructor, Ken Nash, who set up the shooting for us, was there to explain how the rifles worked, and took each of us in turn to show us how to handle the gun and how to fire it. There were two extremely helpful helpers who are going to take us for rifle shooting every Thursday. After our initial introduction, we were taken two at a time to do the actual shooting.
The Rifles:
The guns are attached by a large spring to a table, which can be highered or lowered to your height requirements. When you are comfortable with the feel of the gun, they give you a set of headphones which are attached to the sight by two wires which go into a special sound generating box. The guns were loaded for us with pellets and then you have to line the gun up to the target by listening to a sonic sound which gets higher the closer you are to the centre. Once you have heard what you believe to be the highest sound, you pull the trigger and hope for the best.
Great Help:
We really did have a lot of fun, and I for one will certainly be going regularly, as will all the others that were with me. For our first attempt, we all did really well, thanks to the great help we were given from the members of the rifle club who all shoot at the club themselves, so it is a very safe place.
Would you like a Go??:
If any of you would like to have a go, contact the office as there is transport but the places may be limited. Please wrap up warm as it can get a little chilly on the firing range, as it is down a long cold tunnel, but the hall is heated so you can soon get warm.
