FreeRoller's Roll to Victory:
The Team:
On the 15th May, 2004 the five members of the Freerollers Ten Pin Bowling team, Captain John Cremen, Vincent Fotheringham, Gordon Browne, Mike Meechan and Vie Browne, went to Sheffield by invitation to participate in the British Blind Sports National Finals (Winter League).
We set off at 7.30 on Saturday morning and, after loosing our way trying to negotiate the Sheffield one-way system, eventually arrived at the venue with 20 minutes to spare.
This meant that we could not have our usual practice session before the competition began.
The Game:
There were twelve teams involved in the final, from all over the British Isles and the actual competition which commenced at 10.30 carried on until 6 pm, with a short break for lunch.
The finals were split into two sections of six teams, with each team playing the usual 10 frames per game, meaning that we had to play 60 frames in all. The final was against a team from Glasgow, who we managed to defeat by 15 points,
The Presentation:
After a wash and brush up at our hotel we had a meal. The presentation was made and we spent the rest of the evening (and part of the night) celebrating.
And a good time was had by all.
John Cremen.
