Alternative Sources of TV Listings:

We all remember those dim and distant days when there were only 4 TV channels, when finding out what was on each night was relatively straightforward. If you were visually impaired you could get information from your local Talking Newspaper or you got your weekly Braille Television Times or Radio Times from RNIB. However, nowadays it's a different story. With hundreds of TV and radio channels to choose from, how do you find out what's on where? Here is a selection of hi-tech and lo-tech listings options, some of which will be familiar, some of which may not. Online Options

Freeserve:

www.freeserve.com/tvnradio A comprehensive TV listings guide. Just choose your ITV region, then select from the list on the right-hand side of the screen which channel information you'd like to see; also includes radio. Go to Freeserve

Radio Times:

www.radiotimes.beeb.com A Very comprehensive listing. Which allows you to search for a particular programme by category, date and time. You can also set reminders so you don't miss your favourite programme and select only to see details of your favourite channels. Go to Radio Times

Ananova:

www.ananova.com/tv Again, a very comprehensive listing which can be personalised. Digiguide: www.digiguide.co.uk This one you have to pay for. It is an electronic programme guide that you download to your computer; it costs £6.99 for a year and you can download the guide for a free trial period. PhoneAnything:

www.phoneanything.com This is a new service offering access to internet sites, email, internet radio etc over the phone. You can have your own email address from which you can send and receive emails. Through PhoneAnything you can listen to satellite and terrestrial TV and digital radio listings. You navigate through the service/ website's by using your telephone keypad or your voice. Calls are charged at the national rate.
