ART AT FORSIGHT
Local artist Martin Campodonic
will be exhibiting at the Foresight centre from April 16th—April 20th.
The focus of the exhibition will be Mandala’s symbolism and cultural
design and will appeal to both sighted and sight impaired people. Martin
has affiliated with a local organisation called Full Circle and also is
involved with the Friends of the Freshney. However this will be his first
solo exhibition. Following travels across the globe and the different cultures
he encountered he was reintroduced to the world of art after 20 years absence.
The basis of his work revolves around geometry these pieces are generally
known as mandalas. Mandala’s have been used throughout history to
develop early cultures such as Tibetan, American Indian, Arabic, Mayan and
Indiian. If you go into any church you will see similar designs i.e. The
Rose Window in York Minster.
Working with geometric shapes and structures together with the nature of
colour these artworks are refreshingly inspirational. The purpose of a mandala
is to explain mythological stories and culturally distinctive artwork. Unlike
western art as we understand it, these pieces derive from the natural world
and spiritual understanding. Each element of a mandala has meaning and represents
some guiding aspects or principle. Geometry plays a significant part in
explaining quite intricate elements and colour is used to structurally enhance,
not simply embellish.
This medium of art has taught Martin many aspects and skills that he can
now incorporate into everyday life, including balance, patience the using
of our own individual skills and a love for creation.
We would encourage anybody who is available between these dates to attend
this unique exhibition. As there is no permanent facility for local artists
to exhibit their work in Grimsby this is a great opportunity for Martin
and for visitors to Foresight. We feel sure that everybody will enjoy a
visit to view this one off art form and like Martin draw inspiration from
the work. Anybody who requires further details please contact Foresight.
